How to play FreeCell
- The aim is to move all 52 cards onto the four foundations at the top right, one pile per suit, each built up in order from the ace to the king.
- Every card is dealt face up into eight columns. Build down on them in alternating colours: a red 6 on a black 7, a black jack on a red queen. Any card can go into an empty column.
- The four free cells at the top left each hold one card while you dig for another. A column's last card, or a card in a free cell, can always move.
- A run built down in alternating colours moves as one if there is room to carry it across a card at a time: each empty free cell adds one card to what you can move, and each empty column doubles it. An empty column you are moving into does not count.
- Drag cards to move them, or tap a card to send it to the best place it can go: its foundation, a column, an empty column, then a free cell. A double click sends a card home. Undo takes back any move.
- Cards that no column can still need go up to the foundations by themselves, and once nothing is left but cards going home, the game plays them out.
About FreeCell
FreeCell is the patience game that hides nothing: every card is face up from the first move, so a deal is lost only by the order it is played in. Almost every deal can be won, and finding the way is the game.
The deals are numbered from 1 to 32,000 by the long-standing convention many FreeCell games share, so deal 617 here is deal 617 anywhere that follows it, and a friend can play the same cards from its number. Of all 32,000, only deal 11,982 has no solution. Type a number into the deal box to play it.
Every day at midnight UTC brings a new daily deal, the same for everyone. Win it to put your move count on that day's leaderboard, where the fewest moves rank highest. A move is a card or a run you move yourself, and a move taken back with Undo still counts; the cards that go home by themselves are free. Practice plays any numbered deal, off the board.
Keep free cells empty when you can: every card parked in one shortens the runs you can move. The clock starts with your first move and stops while the tab is hidden, your game stays in this browser if you close the page, and with a keyboard the arrows move a cursor, Enter sends cards where they go and Space picks them up and puts them down.
