How to play Snake
- Steer the snake around the board with the arrow keys or W, A, S and D, or swipe on a touch screen. It keeps moving the way it faces, one cell at a time, and cannot turn straight back on itself.
- There is always one piece of food on the board. Reach it with the head to eat it: the snake grows one cell longer and you score a point.
- The game ends when the head runs into a wall or into the snake's own body. Fill every cell of the board to win.
- The snake speeds up as it eats, a little every five pieces of food.
About Snake
Snake is the arcade classic of the steer-and-grow kind, here on a 20×20 board. The snake starts three cells long in the middle and waits for your first move; from there it sets off at six moves a second and gets faster as it grows, up to twelve.
Every turn you enter between two moves is kept, so a quick double turn to double back along a wall is never lost. The trick of a long game is to leave yourself room: run along the edges and in tidy loops, and never wall a pocket of the board off from the head. Space pauses, and New game, or R, starts again.
When a game ends with a score good enough for the top 25, you can put your name on the leaderboard. No account is needed; your best score and a game left half-played stay in this browser.
