How to play Solitaire
- The aim is to move all 52 cards onto the four foundations at the top right, one pile per suit, each built up in order from the ace to the king.
- The seven columns start with one to seven cards, only the last of each face up. Build down on them in alternating colours: a red 9 on a black 10, a black 4 on a red 5.
- A face-up card moves together with every card on top of it. When a column's face-up cards have all gone, its next card turns over. Only a king, alone or leading a run, can go into an empty column.
- Tap or click the stock to turn over one card, or three with Draw 3; only the top card of the waste can be played. When the stock is used up, tap it again to turn the waste back over, as often as you like.
- Drag cards to move them, or tap a card to send it to the best place it can go; a double click sends a card to its foundation. Undo takes back any move.
- Once every card in the columns is face up, the rest plays itself out. The game is won when all four foundations reach their king.
About Solitaire
Klondike is the patience game most people simply call Solitaire. Draw 1 turns the stock over a card at a time and is the gentler game; Draw 3 turns over three, so only every third card is in reach on each pass and planning ahead matters far more.
Not every shuffle of Klondike can be won, so this one checks before it deals: a solver that sees every card, face down too, plays each shuffle through, and only a deal it wins reaches the table. There is always a way to the end, even if finding it is up to you.
Every day at midnight UTC brings a new daily deal for Draw 1 and for Draw 3, the same for everyone. Win it to put your move count on that day's leaderboard, where the fewest moves rank highest. Every move counts, a draw from the stock included, and so does a move you take back with Undo. Practice deals a fresh winnable game whenever you like, off the board.
The move counter and the clock start with your first move, the clock stops while the tab is hidden, and your game stays in this browser if you close the page. With a keyboard, the arrows move a cursor, Enter sends the card under it where it goes, and Space picks cards up and puts them down.
